Grandma and Grandpa gave Reagan a subscription to National Geograhpic Little Kids for Christmas. They're super cool little magazines and have all sorts of neat activities as well as information about animals. In the last issue there was a section on how to make reindeer cookies and we decided that would be a great reward for a big girl who pooped on the toilet. Yesterday was the first time since having this discussion that Reagan went. Since we had purchased the ingredients in anticipation of her next success we were all set to make reindeer cookies when Daddy came home to play with Kennedy.

Enjoying the fruits of her labor (this picture obviously should have been last but somehow I mixed up the order and I don't feel like starting over again tonight so please scroll past it and then come back to this at the end. Or just enjoy that beautiful smile and sparkling eyes!)
Rolling the sugar cookie dough
Cutting out the reindeer faces
Very carefully placing the cookies on the cookie sheet
So proud of our baked reindeer cookies!
After decorating one cookie with Reagan I let her loose and can you believe this is what she did? I was amazed! Not to discourage creativity or anything but I was really impressed that she would make such a perfect face.
Tim didn't understand why I was so impressed until Reagan took off the nose and created this as her first finished cookie product instead. lol :) I'm still proud of her and her creative genius!
Decorating the Cookies
Even though the magazine didn't show smiles I decided to change it up a bit and add a smile to one of my reindeer (it ended up making them not look like reindeer but who cares, right? lol). Reagan thought this was a great idea and started right in putting smiles on her cookies too. :)
Counting the cookies
Posing with the cookies
Our unique (to say the least) herd of reindeer :)
The next 2 pictures show what I think were Reagan's 2 best cookies. I know I probably should have chosen wild and crazy ones as my favorite but I can't help it... They look more like monkies or crazy people than reindeer, anyway... lol :) I love them and their little creator no matter what they look like! :)
Reagan checking out all her reindeer cookies
I have to say while we were making these I didn't think they looked or sounded particularily appealing. As it turned out they are pretty good! I also have to say this was a more stressful endeavor than I had anticipated. I didn't realize how much more difficult/complicated this process would be than the other cooking projects we've tried of late. I also have to say Reagan was amazingly patient with me during the process. No matter how frustrated I got (the biggest thing was she kept putting her hands and ingredients in her mouth so we must have been washing our hands every 2 minutes - by the time we got to the actual decorating she understood, however, and didn't sneak a single M&M or Chocolate Chip!) Reagan kept right on smiling and having a wonderful time! Bless her her little heart! :) Having said that, we survived and we did have a lot of fun too! The cookies are cute and yummy and we look forward to sharing them with family and friends during this holiday season (like I said we washed our hands more last night than we typically do in a month so no worries about spreading germs!!!)! :)
