Gingerbread Train

During some last minute holiday shopping I noticed a Gingerbread Train on sale and thought the girls might enjoy it. I've been thinking about doing something like this with them for the last couple of years and I've just never gotten around to it. Since this was a super easy kit at a fantastic price I decided there was no time like the present to give it a whirl. We began by having the girls help squeeze out the frosting but the initial construction of the train took quite a bit of assistance from both Mommy and Grammy.Reagan was a little excited as the train began to take shapeThis frosting got everywhere! You can barely see it here but it was on my nose as well as all over our hands and even clothes. This was messy messy stuff!Finishing up the construction stage and ready to move on to the decoration stageWorking hard on decoratingQuite proud of the final product - I love this sisters picture! As soon as it was completed the girls couldn't wait to dig in and eat they're Gingerbread Train and Marshmellow Snowmen which I had picked up as extra decorations/train passengersI love it when I capture a face that truly represents one of the kids personalities. This is such a typical excited Elly Melly face. It's a bit goofy but it's all Missy K! :) Discussing the deconstruction of their masterpieceYum!What was left after the demolition crew declared they were finishedI'm not sure how I would rate this project. The girls had a great time so that was good. It was inexpensive so that was good. It had easy to follow decorations with the bottom sheet which helped to hold it together. It was extremely messy and it also didn't really want to stick together. My guess is we'll do this again in the future but I think I'll probably do a little more research into what we need to do to make it a bit easier. That or we need to have Aunt Jen around since I understand from one of her other niece and nephews blogs that she's quite the Gingerbread House pro.
